”(dis)Empowered" is a book by Ellen Busch where she honestly narrates her experiences in her journey through life. It revolves around the life of Ellen, who gets diagnosed with dyslexia very early in life. Her condition makes her a target for bullying, leading to a decline in her self-confidence and self-worth. Her marriage to John leaves her miserable, as she suffers abuse and violence. She begins seeking an avenue to escape, with her family in full support. She eventually leaves her toxic marriage and reconnects with Mike, her former boyfriend.

I was amazed when Ellen’s reconnection with Mike reignited her love of classical music. This showed the level of great influence he had on her. Unfortunately, Ellen lost her mom to an accident, and I’m equally glad some of her vital parts were donated to people in dire need of them. 

The book discusses the author’s struggle from being disempowered to being empowered. With help, she used her dyslexia to her advantage by focussing on her strengths instead of her weaknesses. Dyslexics are good with structures and quickly memorising layouts; they can use these to their advantage. I appreciate her parents’ support despite her condition. The way they stood up for her on different levels is an aspect I like about the book. Furthermore, the book highlights the importance of coaching and mentorship in one’s life. Ellen speaks highly of Mark Divine and Dennis Stoika, her coaches in mental reawakening and yoga. 

I have nothing negative to state in this book. It is highly inspirational and helps one boost self-esteem. Additionally, I didn't find any errors while reading. Therefore, I rate it a solid 5 out of 5 stars. The book is recommended for people who wish to get inspired and boost their self-esteem. Again, those who seek personal stories about people who have fought against all odds to succeed will find it a life-changing read.
