[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Angel of Bensville Road" by James L Doukas Sr..]
A near-death experience, or NDE, is a person's out-of-body experience usually associated with an injury or sickness. According to research, there have been at least nine million reported cases of near-death experiences in the US alone. The most interesting thing about NDE is that these experiences have a lot of common characteristics. Do you believe in NDEs?
The Angel of Bensville Road is a spiritual memoir by James L. Doukas, Sr. In this memoir, he recounts his NDE experience. When driving home from work, he was involved in an accident. However, he did not feel the impact of the crash. His guardian angel had snatched him out of his body just seconds before the crash. He was only nineteen. In this book, James narrates what the experience was like.
There was much to love about this book. I loved that the author acknowledged God and the Trinity. I enjoyed his description of the angels according to the Bible to dispel myths about what angels look like. His account of angels was accurate. I also loved that he was bold enough to acknowledge that many people are skeptical about this topic. His passion for passing the message of the existence of angels is evident throughout the book.
What I did not like about this book was the repetitiveness of events. I felt that the author kept repeating some information we already knew. For instance, the accident involving the lever was narrated twice. The second recount made me go back to confirm whether this was the same accident. Due to this reason, I took off a star from the book.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. As previously mentioned, the repetitiveness made me take off a star. I gave the book four stars because of the author's passion for Christ. I recommend the book to anyone interested in knowing about NDEs. I also encourage anyone skeptical about the existence of angels to read this book.
