[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Trekking" by Gene Maynard.]
Have you learned the Jesus prayer? Do you recite it daily? Maybe multiple times a day. Gene Maynard encourages us as Christians to do just that.
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
While searching for our deeper walk with God, he encourages us to use this introduction with all our prayers to God. To remind us who Christ is, the Lord, the Son of God, and to remind us we are all sinners saved by grace.
In Trekking: A Guidebook for Spiritual Transformation, Gene Maynard gave us his history and short stories from his past. I loved the section when he discovered he craved a deeper understanding of Jesus and required a spiritual transformation. Gene believed his spiritual essence necessitated a pilgrimage or journey to facilitate this transformative process. He felt compelled to relinquish all worldly attachments to purify his heart and mind. Thereby, he prepared to embrace a profound connection with Christ. For him, that journey would be on the El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage through northern Spain. This journey opened his mind and heart to the sheer presence of God.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I realized that while we may feel burdened and overwhelmed with this fast-paced life, sometimes we need to forge a deeper connection with God. While pursuing spiritual growth, individuals may find solace in re-establishing their connection with God using the age-old Christian spiritual practices. In the book Trekking: A Guidebook for Spiritual Transformation by Gene Maynard, individuals aiming to replicate Gene's spiritual journey will discover comprehensive guidance. Through Gene's narrative, individuals discover internal methods and routines conducive to their spiritual metamorphosis.
Do you want to discern what it symbolizes to be a honeybee in the scriptures for Christ? Do you want to know what Gene considers his letters from home? This well-written, finely documented book includes stories of his life and the stories of others who gave up so much to obtain something they never conceived possible. One of these, Jeanne Guyon, was imprisoned by the church for a quarter of a century because of her spiritual discoveries. While in confinement, she authored several books encouraging the believer to "throw yourself into his arms" and "to those who have strayed and wandered to return to your shepherd."
With themes of soul searching, emptiness, hope, and love, Trekking is a must-have book for spiritual growth and transformation. Gene shared a genuine love of God and yearned to assist the reader in finding this love.
Nothing in the book requires change, and the editing is impeccable. I will rate this book 5 out of 5. I recommend this book to individuals seeking greater fulfillment and a better Christian focus.
