Review of What Goes Around Comes Around
"What Goes Around Comes Around: A Guide to How Life Really Works" by Rob Davis is a reflection on how the principle of cause and effect shapes our lives. This book goes beyond the familiar saying that “what goes around comes around” and tries to emphasize the notion that life responds to the energy, effort, and attitude that we put into it. Rob Davis uses personal stories of friends, public figures, and of himself to illustrate that we either take control of our lives or life will take control of us. This book explores several themes, such as personal responsibility, the consequences of actions, and the power of intentional living. These themes are often presented in very practical and sometimes philosophical terms, with quotes and poems accompanying each story. Rob Davis introduces readers to a variety of real-life characters, from his tennis friend Nick, who exemplifies honesty and integrity, to Peter, a self-serving salesman whose bad behavior eventually backfires on him. Through these stories, the author can show the practical and tangible impact of one’s actions on their outcomes. This book touches on the power of persistence and focus, as seen in the success stories of David, a professional analyst, and Sue, an artist, both of whom achieve their goals through hard work and dedication.
There are so many positives in "What Goes Around Comes Around." This author uses a very accessible message and tone. Davis’s use of simple language and relatable examples to show complex life principles is quite impressive. Then the various real-life stories make the book feel personal and give readers clear illustrations of how these concepts being discussed play out in everyday life. This book is also highly reflective, urging readers to consider the long-term effects of their behavior. The philosophical quotes and poems did not only make me reflect on the concepts being discussed but also inspired me. "What Goes Around Comes Around" is a thoughtful and engaging book that offers practical life advice rooted in the law of cause and effect. Rob Davis successfully communicates the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions and shows how the seeds of our behavior manifest in the results we get in life. His writing is motivational, encouraging readers to be mindful of their thoughts and actions and to cultivate a life they truly desire. I would give this book four out of five stars.
My only issue with this book is that while the book is packed with valuable lessons, it sometimes suffers from a lack of depth in some of its narratives. There are certain instances where the stories feel rushed, and readers could have benefited from more detail or exploration of the characters’ development. For example, in the case of Miriam, the woman who takes control of her life by rejecting an oppressive tradition, her transformation feels somewhat rushed. Readers might appreciate more background to fully understand how a girl who lived in the mountain hills of a village with such archaic tradition would come to become a highlight of the fight or personal freedom.
I recommend “What Goes Around Comes Around” to anyone interested in self-development and personal growth. I also recommend the book to readers in need of guidance on how to better shape their future.
