Operations Management Demystified is a management book by Jitendra Pant. It explores the multifaceted domain of operations management, touching on key areas that form the backbone of effective business operations. The goal of this book is to pique the reader's interest in delving into the field of operations management and learning more through job experience supported by reading resources. Since operations management is a dynamic, ever-evolving field, the author highlights the role of technology in transitioning from manual to automated manufacturing and production. Grab a copy of this book and dive deeper into operations management, from manufacturing facilities and supply chains to service delivery networks and customer support operations.

The author starts by providing a detailed historical overview of operations management, discussing the critical contributions of key figures such as Frederick Taylor, Charles Babbage, and W. Edwards Deming. He then distinguishes between effectiveness and efficiency, highlighting their impact on productivity and the quality of products and services. The author emphasizes that productivity can be low despite hard work. To help us address this issue, the author explains the concepts of Muda, Mura, and Muri. Notably, there are factors to consider when choosing the location of a plant, its layout, and how to handle materials efficiently. I invite you to learn more about supply chain management and other intriguing topics.

I like this book for several reasons. First, it is well-organized into chapters that cover different but related aspects of operations management. Second, the author explains the main points clearly, using relatable examples and references. This made it easy for me to take notes and understand new concepts such as Kaizen. Third, Pant is an exceptional writer who understands that some ideas are better explained with diagrams, clear flowcharts, graphs, and tables. These visual aids are helpful for anyone who finds the book too wordy. Lastly, the author uses simple language to explain complex operations management aspects, making the book accessible to a broad audience. My favorite topic in this book is quality management, inspired by Dr. Philip Crossby and other quality gurus.

The editing team did well; I encountered less than ten errors while reading. There is nothing I dislike about this book to deny it a perfect rating. I rate this book five out of five stars because of the positive aspects mentioned above. I recommend it to those who are enthusiastic about operations management.
