Review of Keys to Harmony
Reading "Keys to Harmony" by Margalit Jakob is highly recommended. It's a book about overcoming depression, and it explains in great depth the key past experiences, dreams, disappointments, and triggers that the author had, along with her successes.
"Keys to Harmony" offers an inside look at the spiritual path Margalit took in order to release her creative block and unearth her suppressed memories. Even though the memory is suppressed, she did bring it up in treatment, and it was ignored right away as it was shoved deeper and deeper into her memory vault. It's crucial that folks read the author's account of how she came to understand that she suffers from depression. Occasionally she ignored the fact that she believed she was simply having good and bad days before realizing it was depression. Some of this book is difficult to read. It's devastating when she tells about how she went to the doctor for a referral and was ignored and provided medication. She was asking for help; she knew she needed aid and was entirely disregarded.
Throughout her journey, her husband, Elisha, is her unwavering support. When Margalit doubts herself, he is there with support. When she wants to try a new business venture or educational opportunity, he never tries to stop her; he just encourages her.
The section of the book where Margalit discusses her perceptions about antidepressants is my favorite. She acknowledges the stigma and describes how she overcame those feelings.
All of these features make for an interesting book for anyone to read: a therapist, someone suffering from depression, a person who could suspect they have depression, or a person helping someone with depression. This book is jam-packed with insightful knowledge and guidance for everyone. This book didn't disappoint in any way, and there were no parts I didn't like. Even if some of it was difficult to read, it was crucial for us readers to know about these aspects of Margalit's journey. I gave it a five out of five. It was superb and well-edited.
