Donnie MacDougall wrote a book titled Freefall pushing it to the edge, which details the author's tragic accident and the recovery process. Donnie was left in a coma and suffered numerous injuries in the skydiving tragedy. The trip Donnie took to make a full recovery is covered in the book.

The author begins the book by briefly describing his upbringing, family history, and how his father's career inspired him to pursue a similar career. He and his father used to travel a lot to watch football together because they were such big football fans. Following a brief past about the author's background, we read the account of the accident and its events. It all began when he accepted an invitation from a few coworkers to jump, which he did and had a great time doing. Donnie completed almost 60 successful dives, but as with everything excellent, there is a drawback, which contributed to the accident. According to the author, this book is not just about his healing but also about letting people know that aid is there if they need it. This book demonstrates Donnie's actual battling spirit and how, despite doctors' predictions that he wouldn't be able to fully recover, he overcome his challenges on the path to recovery.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this inspiring book because I was so moved by Donnie's perseverance, work ethic, and recovery from the injury. The accident and the healing procedure took up the most of this brief read. The author acknowledged that he couldn't recall every detail of what happened, but he did a fantastic job of writing such that I felt as though I was there with him. The book was neatly organized and put together. I gave this book five out of five stars because I loved reading it from beginning to end. It did have two typos, but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the book. I thought it was a lovely touch to have the images of his family at the end of the book. Anyone in recovery, or if you know someone who is, this book is highly recommended. It will undoubtedly help them through their journey.
