"Appetite for Risk" by Robert R. Abbott reads like a movie: action-packed, thrilling, and full of high-stakes adventure. Close call after close call enlivens self-deprecation as the book accounts the author's life, which is definitely far from ordinary. It is like each chapter forms a thrilling episode of its own, with pathetic escapades in every corner of the world—mostly Nigeria. Here in Nigeria, Robert faces both human threats, such as machete-wielding pirates, and life-threatening diseases. The line of narration creates the impression that you are standing next to the hero at any dangerous moment.
 
The storyline runs with vivid storytelling and drawn-out, compelling descriptions that keep you deeply embedded in his adventurous life. Whether it was the story about the botched parachute jump from California or simply, no matter how he navigated through politics, the stories are impossible to put down. I found myself getting really engrossed from the very first page, and then just really tough to pause because each new chapter unfolds breathtaking action and lessons.
 
The writing style of the author is beautiful, and I don't find a single grammatical error throughout the book. Editing is perfectly smooth and enjoyable, so reading will be easy and enjoyable. Imaginative storytelling will make the reader want to enter into the world of Bud and benefit from his lively descriptions. On the bright side of his character, he manages to combine both humor and vulnerability when relating situations, even those that carry a great threat.
 
A good nonfiction adventure book, of course, needs authenticity, a compelling narrative, vivid descriptions, emotional depth, relatable themes, valuable life lessons, and a unique voice. It should make the reader go on some thrilling experiences but also allow reflection and insight regarding risks and consequences. "Appetite for Risk" is precisely that kind of book—engaging, well-written, and full of heart-pounding adventures—difficult to put down. I couldn't help giving it a 5 out of 5 rating just for its tremendous stories and profound introspection.
