The Sounds at River's Edge by Bobbie J McLaren is a memoir in which the author shares her childhood stories. One will surely come across something in a story that can be relatable. From breaking a window just because of how fascinating the broken glass looks to almost burning down a whole house, it's all in there. "It is because of the security of a loving earthly father that I am able to grasp the idea of a loving Heavenly Father." Bobbie looks up to her father for everything and has deep compassion and love for the Heavenly Father. There are passages from the Holy Bible in every story she narrates that relate to her love for her father.

I like how the author remembers passages from the Holy Bible and places them with every experience she faced growing up. There are lines from the Holy Bible conveying strong messages from the Heavenly Father, and she sees that light in her father as a child. One of the scenes I like is where she was fishing and her line caught something. When it came above the water, she thought it was a demon, and she thought demons lived underwater. Later, after rushing her father to the scene, she discovered it was an ugly rockfish.

The only thing I didn't like is sometimes I felt the stories went from being childhood stories to something that happened in the recent past during adulthood. However, that didn't last long, and the author brought me back to her childhood, so that didn't bother me much and didn't take away the excitement of what was coming up next.

I would happily rate this book 5 out of 5 stars , as the negatives I mentioned did not stop me from reading. Her stories kept ringing a bell and putting a smile on my face or making me giggle.

I enjoyed reading this book as the author shared many things she did that I had forgotten I, too, had done in my childhood. I recommend this book to anyone who would love to reminisce about the time when gadgets were not a thing and when the world outside was our playground. I also recommend it to young readers so they can see what childhood was like many decades ago.

This review makes "The Sounds at River's Edge" sound like a nostalgic and heartfelt memoir. I like how it mixes childhood memories with faith and family. It seems like a great book for reflecting on simpler times and learning life lessons. I'm curious to check it out, especially for those relatable childhood stories.
