Because He Loved Us by Sharon Williams is a slow-moving, contemplative narrative of the things that Jesus Christ of Nazareth wanted to convey to his people, the signs and wonders he performed, why he was created, and the impact that he had on the lives of his apostles and disciples. From the overall idea of the continuity of the narrative, it is separated into separate historic events starting with birth, followed by ministry, crucifixion, and ultimately, resurrection. It also includes an analysis in each chapter, which is not merely a recounting of the events in the Bible but an exploration of the lessons that can be learned from the things that Jesus did and said. It focuses on the gospel of salvation by faith and turning from sin, giving a graphic depiction of the kindness and love of Jesus during his ministry to man.

Engaging with this book was like a scriptural walk and then reflection. The writing is pious and detailed, making Jesus’ life easily imaginable, while the miracles and the words remain grand. I loved how the author complemented extensive history along with some spiritual explanations to make the narration a full picture of some incidents in Jesus’ life. Writing is easy, engaging both children and adults, and an explanation of biblical concepts is given understandably.

By and large, I did not find any defect in this book, and it lacks even any sign of having grammar errors. It was very faith-enriching and a good reflection on faith. Because the book is written for the general public, the language used by the author does not assume the readers’ extensive knowledge of theology; moreover, the book is characterized by a high degree of reflectiveness. Therefore, to sum it up, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

Because He Loved Us is accessible for Christians regardless of denominational affiliation and experience—from churchgoers to those who have recently started attending church or who are interested in understanding more about Jesus Christ. This is a factual and thorough narration of his life and the doctrines he gave, making this work useful to the study and follow-up groups, religion teachers, and anyone who wishes to have a closer look at Christianity.

Feels like it expands the events of the Bible that involve Jesus. Christian/Catholic readers who want a deeper understanding of faith would like it a lot!

I have tried to read many books in the same realm as this one, but the authors tend to take a “high and mighty” approach to describing things. If this is, as you say, a truly reflective tome I would love to try it. Thanks!
