Under Fire: A Lifetime of Service by Thomas Wills summons up Thomas Wills' experiences as a first responder. This book was so well written; it was captivating immediately, and I found no errors in my read-through. It was superbly edited. Right from the start, I like how Wills sets each new scene and the year they are talking about with major events during that time. Whether it was the death of Martin Luther King Jr., the moon landing, or 911, each story started with a perfect layout of exactly where we, as the readers, were supposed to be in time.

The author not only describes the events in a way that makes you feel like you're right there but also shows the sacrifice, blood, sweat, and danger that went into this job. From fighting fires to first aid and first response help.

It wasn't only the author's work life that we get a glimpse into but their personal as well; achievements like finishing school, getting a girlfriend, and marriage, along with their kids and their successes. I enjoyed these parts of the book just as much as the action-filled parts because they peel back what we know about first responders. They aren't just heroes, even if that is exactly what they are, but they are people like you and me. They have lives and families, people who love them and are sacrificing that much more than they go to work every day.

Wills also does a good job when it comes to the other characters in the books; these real people in the author's life become real people for the readers. The author writes them so well that they become our friends and coworkers who we care about.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fast-paced adventure. The stories in this book will keep you on the edge of your seat, gripping your e-reader or book, waiting to see what happens. I also recommend this to anyone looking to join the fire service or even just rely on fire paramedics in their lives. It's a look inside what makes these people so amazing and special. People like you and me who go above and beyond. There was nothing I would change about this book, and because of all the reasons I stated above, I give it a five out of five stars.
