Title: Ride On! Dame Sarah Storey's Extraordinary Journey of Triumph
Author: S A Sterling

As this book will reveal, Dame Sarah Storey is incredible in many ways. After decades of non-stop sporting accolades, she still seems to have much to give. This book tells us her story. Bullying and an eating disorder were challenging aspects to overcome as a child and teenager, yet she had an inner knowledge that told her to follow her own path. Sport was her love, and netball was her 'go-to'. This stoic and focused young woman later found swimming to be her forte and then cycling. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 and nominated for the prestigious Laureus Award in 2000. She is the proud possessor of seventeen gold medals, eight silver medals and three bronze medals in the Paralympics. A hard act to follow!

Her life has had its ups and downs. Bullying, an eating disorder, a bad cycling accident and a terrible dose of COVID-19 have all tested her. One of her life rules is to 'unlock the power of resilience'. I enjoyed one of her quotes:

'You're not trying to get to a destination, you're trying to enjoy the path of becoming a better version of yourself.'

This book is not only a biography, but also a self-help guide for many who feel that they lack the stamina or strength to become who they want to be.

The book was edited well. For reference, I would have appreciated some photographs of her, especially during one of her sports activities. From the middle onwards, I felt a tad bored, as if everything had been said already. Because of this, I will award this book four out of five stars. The book would suit readers who enjoy biographies and sports, or on the classroom bookshelf. I am glad that I read it and have learnt about a fantastic woman, and I am grateful for that.
