(1978) by Dave Husband is an intriguing short book documenting his eventful life in the United Kingdom. It is an interesting story packed with humor and exciting, good, and bad moments.

Dave started working as an apprentice quantity surveyor in the construction industry at 16. He would then leave to work in Liverpool (Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Wales). Dave would then work on contracts in England, Scotland, and Wales for decades. He encountered several experiences. For example, in Shetland, he met and made friends with American coastguards with whom he could spend memorable moments, especially as part of their rugby team, 'the B.P.' Dave spent moments with the coastguard while on a trip for a rugby match, leading to adventures in the Penguin Club, the Sergeant's mess, the Baltasound hotel, and the Saxaford camp.

Dave enjoyed his life in the construction industry, recording horrible and enjoyable moments as he worked on contracts throughout the United Kingdom. How will Dave's experiences as a worker in the construction industry shape his future life? How risky was the Carillon company? Grab a copy of this book, discover answers to these questions, and enjoy Dave's experiences in the United Kingdom.

I liked this book. It is a short but detailed story. It was refreshing to read about Dave's trips to the United Kingdom islands. Dave narrates a tale packed with historical events and figures like Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the World Wars, the Rwandan genocide of 1994, Paul Robeson, Churchill, and the Queen, among others. Characters like Tex, Terry, Doc, the Prof., and Barbara complimented the story, making Dave's trips exciting. The enjoyable and horrifying moments that Dave experienced in the construction industry emphasized the complexities of our work environments.

I did not dislike any part of this book. The story was short and enjoyable, and Dave used simple language devoid of ambiguous vocabulary.

I give this book ๐š ๐Ÿ“ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ“ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ซ rating. I enjoyed reading such a captivating story from the beginning to the end. This book was also professionally edited. I singled out only one typographical error. I recommend this book to people who love memoirs. They will be excited to learn from Dave's experiences.

What a refreshingly good humoured and interesting book this is, and taken from his real life experiences. It is quite dryly written, itโ€™s not a book of deep emotional drama. Nicely reviewed, thank you.

As a rule, I donโ€™t enjoy memoirs. Dave does seem to experience some very exciting things in his job while traveling and I get the feeling that he expresses himself well. Congratulations on BOTD!

I didn't think I would be interested in a book about construction work, but I'm definitely interested in the historical backdrop mentioned. And I love that there's a little humor in it. Thank you for your review.

This memoir provides the good and bad aspects of being a construction worker in the United Kingdom, but I find the historical aspects of the author's life the most intriguing. Thank you for your review.

Congrats on BOTD!
In his biography American Coastguards, Dave Husband recounts some of the tales he heard while working on building projects in the twenty-first century. It covers humor both good and terrible, as well as vicious. One of the major players went out of business in 2018 because the Post Office adopted Carillion's ideology.

I enjoy memoirs from time to time but I'm not sure this one would be a good pick for me.
The author sounds like he experienced quite a few adventures while living in the UK but I question how much detail we'll get with such a short story.
Congrats on being BOTD but I'll probably pass on this one.

One of my favorite genres to read is memoirs & biographies and ๐˜–๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜บ ๐˜‰๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฌ๐˜ด (1978)โ€ by Dave Husband sounds remarkably interesting. The book covers quite a bit of territory geographically. Daveโ€™s firsthand perspective on the historical events and figures which have shaped our lives would make this a worthwhile read.

Dave's story sounds incredible, and I can't wait to see what happens for the rest of the book. The fact that the book includes notable historical events and figures from the twentieth century makes it a must-read. I've added it to my want-to-read shelf.
Many thanks for this review, @Amos Osinya.
