What caught my attention immediately was the title of this book, Me Power by LaNysha T. Adams. Who doesn't want more power over their own life? I wanted to see if this book could provide some insight that hasn't been considered yet.

Dr. Adams did not disappoint me. Many of us have heard about cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT); however, Dr. Adams builds on the practice. Methodically, Dr. Adams explains how empowerment is misunderstood, the meaning of the name Me Power, and five principles that are the basis of the Me Power theory. Small suggested exercises are given at the end of each principle to let the reader try it for themselves. By taking your time to read, think, and try the exercises, you will get a better experience.

I love how the author often says, "We are more than enough." There are so many things Dr. Adams says in this book that touch me; however, my favorite is "Each time we make a decision, we create a new version of ourselves—one that has never existed before and will never exist again.". This says to me that if I do not like what I'm doing now or who I am now, I will change. I have choices and hope that I will be someone I like or that I will be doing something I like in the future.

I loved this book and rated it 5 out of 5. Why? Me Power has some interesting insights, real-life examples, and new information based on psychological studies done previously, all written in an easy-to-read and understandable format.

Anyone can benefit from this information, regardless of their status, race, political stripe, religious beliefs, or gender. I understand the author’s motivation; however, I was disappointed that her book has a racial flavor to it. We are all humans with similarities and wonderful differences. We all have something to contribute to society.
