Review of Faithful Abundance
We have all heard the saying, “Money is the root of all evil.” Well, Faithful Abundance by Jean Louis Hardy challenges that notion with biblical examples. Many Christians believe that living in poverty is virtuous and being wealthy means you are greedy. By examining Scripture, Mr. Hardy shows us that money is neither good nor evil; it is merely a tool that can be used according to our intentions. If we achieve financial freedom, we will not only be spared from the stress of struggling to make ends meet, but we will also have greater opportunities to help others and do the Lord’s work. If you are ready to claim God’s abundant blessings, then this is the book for you.
The cover design is simple yet striking. The illustration of the hands with a gold coin hovering above them reminds me of Albrecht Dürer’s Praying Hands and Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam. The themes of this non-fiction book are Christianity and finances, and the text consists of 8 brief chapters. The author used multiple versions of the Holy Bible when quoting Scripture, including the New International Version, the New American Standard Bible, the Tree of Life Version, and the English Standard Version. There is no lewd or violent content, and profanity is not used in the text. The author does not specify his nationality in his biography, but I noticed that he kept using British slang words, such as divvying, dosh, damp squib, and bloke.
I liked Mr. Hardy’s light-hearted and conversational writing style. I also loved the fact that he provided many Bible verses to validate his points. I appreciated the author’s intentions while writing this book. It conveys a message we need to hear during these uncertain economic times. Because of the way the world is structured, we need money. So, we should not have an aversion to it. At the same time, we should not let the pursuit of riches consume us. Instead, we should seek God’s will as we strive for monetary resources. Some might call it divine intervention that I read this book at a time when I am struggling financially, and I truly believe that this book has the potential to help Christians unlock the secrets to financial prosperity by changing their perception of money.
However, I noticed that there was a formatting issue. I read the Amazon Kindle version of this book, but it seemed like a PDF file. Unlike most other Kindle books, I could not adjust the font size or highlight the text. I also found it odd that there was no copyright page at the beginning of the book. Additionally, on page 29, the author combined Matthew 20:16 with Matthew 22:14 without mentioning the fact that part of the quote was taken from Matthew 22:14. Furthermore, 2 passages were unnecessarily repeated, word-for-word, on pages 38, 39, and 40. Also, Mr. Hardy should have specified which translations of the Bible he cited. The only reason I knew which versions he used was because I looked up each verse as I read. I also think that the author should have provided detailed personal testimonies to lend more credence to his claims. He only tackles mindset and spiritual challenges, but he does not address practical matters, like unemployment, nepotism, and physical or mental health issues that make it difficult to access lucrative opportunities. It would have been helpful if the author had provided tips to overcome those types of challenges. Finally, I found more than 10 errors in the text.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy this book for its guidance in spiritual growth. After much consideration, I have decided to give Faithful Abundance by Jean Louis Hardy a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. I really wanted to give this publication a higher score, but due to the numerous issues I mentioned, I could not. With another round of careful editing and formatting improvements, this book could earn a perfect rating.
