- Latest Review: How to Discover the Authentic Life Story by L. E. Rhoden
Review of Attached Above
Attached Above by Gerson Counou is an adult self-help guide. The author uses personal experiences and reflections in this book. The author aims to empower readers to unleash their potential through a journey of self-discovery.
The author had a traumatic childhood experience and sought solace in books. The books taught valuable lessons of resilience and courage. As the author matured, writing became an outlet for emotions and a cathartic release. The author believes that trauma is where the light enters you and reminds you of your strength. This strength and the use of mindfulness, self-care, optimism, and consistency are transformative. The author has suffered hardships such as hurtful behaviour from close family. These experiences give the author empathy for those going through similar ordeals, and the book offers strategies to overcome trauma and harness positivity.
This book is a mix of self-help strategies, reflections, and poetry. The poetry makes the book unique. The author has added personal experiences and innermost thoughts that give the book an honest and unfiltered quality. I enjoyed the poetry as it was a welcome break from the self-help content. I found the book to be repetitive. Some topics appeared several times throughout the pages. The author may have done this deliberately for emphasis, but I felt this hindered the momentum.
I enjoyed the author’s desire to help people. The book includes sound advice and several strategies to deal with many issues like anxiety, depression, and conquering the mind. The words seem more authentic as the author is living proof of working through hardship. The book is a collection of journals and reflections which are straight from the heart but lack direction. Reading the book was similar to reading a diary containing a collection of thoughts and creative outbursts. Some readers will appreciate this style, but I felt it lacked a beginning, a middle, and an end.
I particularly enjoyed the reflections on hope and miracles. The book advocates the power of positivity and the limitless possibilities life can offer us. I liked how the author emphasises self-care for the mind and body for us to be able to prosper and meet challenges head-on. Acknowledging feelings is a prominent theme and a tool to reflect, rebuild, and conquer.
The book is professionally edited well. I enjoyed the positive affirmations and strategies to unleash potential. The poetry is a creative addition. I found the book to be repetitive in parts, and for me, it lacked direction. Overall, the book is an original guide to inspire and promote empowerment. I give the book 3 out of 5 stars.
