In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes is a thought-provoking read. Aligned with my philosophical worldview, the author asks us to consider whether material things bring us true pleasure or not. Instead of focusing on material things, he challenges us to do the inner work necessary to understand our genuine connection to each other and the greater world. I loved his "Do less, better" challenge. Filling our lives with more, more, more is certainly not making us, as human beings, happier. Instead, we should take time to build deeper relationships with one another, connect with nature more deeply, and consider how our actions affect those around us. I appreciated this book, and it resonated with me.

The author used poignant examples to make complex arguments more accessible to readers. For example, his connection between the excess daily waste of food juxtaposed with starving children dying in the world hit home with me. We seem to have forgotten our interconnections with those around us, and this author returned us to this awareness. Hughes reminds us that our words, actions, and connections have meaning and consequences - whether for good, neutral, or ill. He challenges us to consider various perspectives more deeply before judging or dismissing others. He leads us to ask ourselves “In what ways can we better understand the consequences of our actions on a global scale?” Many books tell the reader what they should believe or do, whereas this one asks us to explore ourselves, our beliefs, and our actions.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars, as it challenges us to pause during our busy lives and deeply consider what is, or should be, most important. Anchoring this challenge with quotes from various thought leaders and historical figures such as Einstein, Jung, Osho, Tolle, Nietzsche, Van Gogh, Shaw, Socrates, Voltaire, Jesus, Dyer, Shakespeare, Descartes, and others adds even greater depth to this work.
