Review of The Yellow Bus

"The Yellow Bus" by Alan McThredder follows the story of two brothers, Alan and Phil, off to see the world in an old yellow bus. They, together with like-minded youths who are naive but optimistic about the future, embark on this adventure to India in the early seventies. Throughout their journey, they face numerous challenges, with the bus frequently breaking down at various points. They passed through several borders as they traveled from England to India. They got to learn about various cultures like the German, Iranian, and Afghan. Conflict arises when one of the brothers in pursuit of his lover decides to take all the money gathered and leave in the midst of a health crisis.
This is a well-written book; it has just a few grammatical errors and has great descriptive storytelling of the terrain and architecture as well as lovely scenes between the people that were with them and those they encountered along the way. I learned a lot from the various cultures and experiences the characters encountered during their journey. You'll get to learn about the challenges that arise with encountering different people and their different ways of life. I took a great liking to the character of Alan. I found the young teenage boy to be very inspiring. His resilience in the face of adversity was brilliantly written, and I loved to see his growth through the course of the journey. I didn’t dislike anything about this book, but I felt the brewing romance between Alan and Odette could have been developed better.
I would rate this book 5 out of 5. This book deserves its high rating because the author's writing style made it easier to visualize the journey, making it easy to relate to the challenges the characters faced. I recommend this book to those who are interested in travel and adventure stories.
