[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The World of Crypto and The Digital Wave" by Rogelio Beltran.]
Rogelio Beltran’s The World of Crypto and The Digital Wave is an introduction to the dynamic and daunting world of cryptocurrency. Presented in a textbook format with clear chapter titles and subtitles in each, it provides foundational information on investing in digital currencies. The first few chapters cover basic terminology: blockchains, wallets, keys, etc. Subsequent chapters discuss strategies and precautions, including short- and long-term investing decisions, security and privacy dangers, and mental health stressors such as FOMA (fear of missing out). The book also touches on legal and ethical issues of responsible investing. Betran provides illuminating case studies and a helpful summary at the end of the book.
This book serves its purpose very well: “to guide readers in investing in cryptocurrency wisely and safely.” Beltran packs a great deal of knowledge into a relatively short book. I like that it’s organized in a way to allow readers to refer back to chapters to review important information again. I also like the reflection questions, resource lists, and case studies sprinkled throughout the book to personalize the data for the reader. Finally, I love the section on ethical and responsible investing and the environmental ramifications digital currencies can have on the use of fossil fuels.
Having absolutely no background in digital currency, I can’t comment on issues or topics Beltran might have missed; it seems incredibly comprehensive to me. Also, the book was very well edited; I found no errors at all—which is really important in a data-heavy book such as this.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars! It’s a great place to start for those interested in stepping into this burgeoning industry. Beltran has taken this journey himself and shares his insights with his readers. As he states in his introduction: “There were many lessons; some were learned the hard way, but each was invaluable.”
