Scale at Speed: How to Triple the Size of Your Business and Build a Superstar Team was fantastic! I have scored this book a five out of five. Scale at Speed is a fascinating book for leaders and business owners that want to achieve growth, innovation, and financial success. [/i] I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s use of the (GLT) Growth Lab Team leadership model and infrastructure that he created to execute on his 2Y3X Strategy Map. The 2Y3X Strategy Map’s title is derived from the concept that a two-year program can deliver a 3-year goal of “tripling revenue”. On the surface it seems like a daunting task. The author masterfully lays out a plan for readers to follow by building a pipeline of 5 leaders for the GLT, within the company that are accountable, collaborative high achievers that are each tasked with monthly and quarterly goals which over the course of three years, will yield 60 productive projects from this 5-member team.

The author explains their reasoning for keeping the GLT small enough so that it doesn’t become too unyielding and that it has a leader or chair of the group, with specific tasks and deliverables for each month for each team member and reporting structures that allow for collaboration amongst the team members and projects or tasks. I found myself taking notes all through the book, because it ignited some ideas of how I could best use some of the principles and tools that were shared to build and increase the bench strength of leadership teams.

This, of course, creates capacity for senior leaders to focus on other areas of the business and not be too involved in the day-to-day aspects and be focused on the high-level strategies to drive success.

I highly recommend this book to all those in business and leadership in any industry. Leaders that are looking for ways to grow pipelines of leadership within their companies, divisions, markets, and book of business will find this book unbelievably valuable. There is something for all leaders to leverage and/or adopt from the tools and principles shared. I especially enjoyed the author’s methodology of embracing your teams to engage them as part of your process to drive success and creating a culture of innovation, growth, and accountability. The KPI examples shared for each year of the 3-year strategy map and growth targets were easily digestible and can be applied in any industry or tweaked for the specific business and truly gives the reader insight into how to build an engaged succession plan that is easily measurable and delivers outcomes for the respective pre-identified pillars of company performance.

I recommend Scale at Speed to anyone that is looking for a way to achieve innovation and financial growth, while building a workplace culture where teams feel included and valued.
