The Emotional Alchemy of Healing by Rachel Marie Rabatin is an encouraging, mindful, and immensely helpful guide on dealing with grief and change in one’s life. From the opening dedication to the closing remark, it really feels like the author is on your side as you go on your healing journey.

There is a big focus on taking your pain and turning it into power in this book, and the author gives great advice on how to do so while acknowledging that everyone is different. I like the addition of sections that provide “tricks for your emotional alchemy bag”. The book is full of activities to aid self-reflection and healing, and I plan to start using many of them. There’s also an emphasis on taking care of yourself, and the author takes care to use mindful, encouraging language throughout. She walks you through implementing her advice on dealing with guilt and growth nicely. The personal anecdotes included in this book also create a sense of kinship through beautiful, frank writing. Journaling is mentioned as a tool in this book, and the author even includes helpful journaling prompts for beginners to use. Throughout the book, there is a strong message: “I’m here for you, and I’m here with you.” For people dealing with grief, this is invaluable.

From my reading, I also see that the book is free of grammatical errors. While that didn’t drastically change my reading experience, it is a testament to the author’s dedication to making sure she put out an excellent finished product, both in content and formatting. Moreover, there is nothing in this book that I dislike. It is a short read. After finishing this book, I came away with more appreciation for self-care and a determination to pursue peace in my life. I would say this book accomplishes what it sets out to do.

I would rate this book a 5 out of 5. I would recommend it to anyone feeling overwhelmed by life or going through a change or loss in their life.
