[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Win Win Thinking" by Ebonie Pritchett.]
Win Win Thinking: 21 Day Mindset Journal to Maximize Your Personal and Professional Success by Ebonie T. Pritchett was a journal that I could use to motivate myself to do better every day. I will give this journal three stars out of five mainly because there were some mistakes throughout it that caught my eye.
While the journal has wonderful prompts to motivate individuals, there were some instances in the paragraphs before the writing prompts where the sentences sounded choppy and simple. I feel like Ms. Pritchett was trying to make it sound familiar to the readers/writers, but it came off more like she was talking down to me while I read it. I do not think that was her intention, especially considering the nature of the journal, but I think her writing could have been elevated a bit more to match her level of education without making the reader feel like they are reading a kid’s book.
Even with this, I liked the questions that were asked to reflect on because I found myself contemplating them throughout the day. I feel like many of the questions fit into the different topics for the days, such as “Know Your Strengths,” “Celebrate Your Wins,” and “Silence Your Inner Critic” was my favorite; I know that I am my toughest critic and am constantly judging myself for the things that I should be doing, have not completed, or did not do well enough, so acknowledging that fact while answering the prompts helped me pay more attention when the critic would show up.
Ms. Pritchett did a very good job of creating a journal that can help elevate anyone’s mindset to be more confident in themselves, optimistic about their future, and motivate them to take action immediately towards their goals. I love everything about growing as an individual, so this journal will be something that I will reference often when I teach my resiliency classes. With that, I still give this three out of five stars because of the mistakes and overall tone of the journal in the beginning, but I do recommend it for those who are ready to change their lives for the better and become more resilient in this new year.
