In “A RESURRECTED LIFE: The Triumph of a Miraculous,” Euloge K. Tchoutang uses the story of her father, Jacques, to teach that you can make it in life regardless of what life throws at you.

Jacques had a difficult life as a child in a remote Cameroonian village. His father died when he was only 4 years old. The mother had to leave him with his grandparents to work in the city. Ten years later, his mother died, leaving him as a young orphan in this world. As a teenager, he showed tendencies that were not common with children of his time and nativity. At 17, he left the village for the city to make something out of his life. This was the beginning of a story that the author used to inspire readers of this book.

Let me start by saying that this is one of those books you should not judge by the title. This is not a regular biography of a man the author calls her “hero.” This book is a testament to the fact that hard work, consistency, and living with the proper values pay huge dividends. Get ready to not only enjoy a well-told story but also to be inspired.

I liked how the author told this story with so much zest that readers would wish Jacques was their daddy. I could feel the heart of a daughter who loved her father and was proud of the man he was. Readers would learn a thing or two from the way the author talked about her dad, especially considering the dysfunctionality we’ve seen in parent-children relationships. The author did not present her father as a perfect man. However, his values and sense of responsibility made him a man worth reading about.

I also liked that the author narrated this story honestly and sincerely. She did not only share all the good stuff about the dad. She also shared the not-so-good part of her dad. For instance, Jacques had his fair share of truancy as a young student. He also made some lifestyle mistakes that affected his finances negatively. Overall, Jacques’ story was worth the read.

There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book. As a result, I rate it a 5 out of 5.

Jacques' journey sounds inspiring, especially with the honest portrayal of both his struggles and achievements. I’m intrigued by how the author shares the complexities of his life, and I’d be curious to read more.
