[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Biblical Priniciples from Yesterday to today" by Rev Jewel Harper-Simon.]
"Biblical Principles from Yesterday to Today" by Rev. Jewel Harper-Simon motivates readers through a thorough exploration of the Biblical stories and various life principles and values they impart. The author draws from Biblical stories, such as those of Anna, Mary the mother of Jesus, Moses, Joshua, Job, and others to illustrate 12 Biblical principles.
The author outlines principles like acceptance, honesty, integrity, service, willingness, hope, faith, humility, patience, courage, brotherly and sisterly love, and self-discipline. Each of these principles is supported by various stories from the Bible. Acceptance allows us to recognize our Creator's purpose for humanity. I liked how the stories of Jonah and Mary, the mother of Jesus, were used. God's purpose for Jonah was to save the people of Nineveh, but he initially refused to accept it.
The book conveys many lessons at the end of each story, offering readers a chance to reflect on their lives, recognize where they've gone wrong, and embrace change. How often do you realize that something is wrong and take action, just as Abigail did during the reign of King David? How often do you tell people the truth? What do the scriptures say about little lies?
I liked how each story clearly explained its corresponding principle. The book was concise and direct to the point. It left spaces for readers to write about their reflections. I also appreciated that the author provided many Bible references and quotes accessible to the readers. It was spiritually enriching.
I enjoyed the book, but it was not without flaws. There were inconsistencies in bolding the characters' names and in the text color and formatting of Bible references. I also found grammatical errors, suggesting the book was not exceptionally well-edited. I therefore rate it 4 stars out of 5. I deducted one star because of the reasons mentioned above.
"Biblical Principles from Yesterday to Today" is a perfect read for Christians because it provides a chance to embrace change, keep up hope and faith in our Creator, and live more fulfilling lives.
