Review of Know the Enemy
Jodi Velazquez is a mom of two daughters, one raised with type 1 diabetes. After her daughter was diagnosed with the condition at a young age, Jodi and her husband readied for the new reality by studying every piece of information they needed to know that would aid in raising their daughter. As a result of many years of experience, Jodi penned this book, Know the Enemy, to tackle the issue of healthy living as far as diabetes and obesity are concerned. Through her expertise, Jodi educates extensively on how to take care of people living with diabetes successfully. She guides obesity prevention, incorporating information about healthy eating, correct insulin intake, and exercise and how to achieve that successfully.
One of the tough situations to find yourself in as a parent is finding out your kid is going to live with a medical condition that needs 100% attention. In most cases, parents would panic. However, this book encourages you to take such news confidently and seek more information on raising your child. Jodi is an example because she learns much about health and fitness, even to educate others.
Besides the parenting issue, the book is an awakening call to careless and obvious lifestyles many consider harmless. That includes the unhealthy side of fast foods and snacks children may consume, whether rewarded or self-bought, without parents' knowledge. Readers will also be equipped with knowledge about carbs, fats, and other food-related information they should know, not forgetting behaviors to embrace and avoid at home, school, and other places.
I had no problem with the book's structure. The topics were organized in an orderly manner to ensure that the theme and message of good health remained relevant. Besides numerous editing issues, I didn't spot any dislikes in the book. Therefore, I rate Jodi's book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend Know the Enemy by Jodi Velazquez to parents, people with diabetes, and those who wish to live a healthy lifestyle.
