Review of 17 Months and a Secret

The book 17 Months and a Secret by Maxine Cabrall narrates the author's life, specifically focusing on her marital life and the difficulties and lessons that came her way through those periods. It started when she met her husband for the first time at the church as a newcomer in the county. He is a single, charming man who has won her heart and the admiration of her friends and family. They got to know each other, and after some months of courtship, they married. The author now started explaining the challenges she encountered in her marriage, ranging from the unilateral decision-making process by the husband to the sexual choice of her husband.
The author explains marital difficulties in a relationship and family; she introduces the reader to her first marriage and her stable work-life activities before and after she married her first husband, what led to the separation and how they managed it. The book then returns to the recent. When her husband did something that is viewed as becoming a Christian by their Christian community, Their Leader called her from work and told her to come to his house for the news. What did the husband do? How will it affect their relationship? How will she handle it? Will it break their marriage? Get a copy and find out.
Reading the book exposed me to the uncertainties in marriage and the need to speak up when you feel neglected. The author told some disturbing stories which should not be associated with a Christian marriage. I like the book because it stresses that good communication is healthy for every marriage. I dislike the lack of personal care expressed towards her during her husband's ordeal. The educational aspect of the book is a positive aspect of it. People who do not believe in Christian marriage may find some ideas in the book harmful. The editing is encouraging, with no errors. I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars; the reason for my rating is that I did not hear much from the husband's perspective, and rating it much higher might make me push an incomplete story. Apart from that, the book is wonderful. I recommend it to Christians.
