This is a review of the book 2nd Edition: Become the Arrow - The Art of Modern Barebow Shooting - by Byron Ferguson with Glenn Helgeland.

Bryon Ferguson is an expert in archery and bowhunting. He hunts approximately 150 days a year in northern Alabama. Over the years, he hunted with firearms, then recurve bows, then compound bows, and he went strictly to the modern barebow with the historic longbow, the bow of Robin Hood.

He is more than a hunter; Bryon is an archery demonstration shooter and an archery trick shot. Over 250,000 people have enjoyed his performances at deer shows, sportsmen’s shows, and club and association events. He has performed on Japanese and Canadian national television, also in France, Italy, Spain, and Chile. He shoots almost every day. Byron was the archery specialist on ESPN’s show “American Shooter,” which reached 2.3 million households each week. He has a business, Ferguson Adventure Archery, that handcrafts longbows and sells them worldwide.

Readers will learn his technique and philosophy, called “Become the Arrow.” The result is an intriguing and easy-to-learn mindset. Bryon explains by text and photos: stance, body position, anchor, breath control, head angle, picking a spot, the cant of the bow, and release. There are also physical, mental, and muscle exercises. There is a chapter about fine-tuning your bow and your arrows. The chapter about bowhunting is fun to read as he shares his experiences and gives the reader advice about gear, tree stands, tips, the body language of deer, tidal charts, and moon phases.

His storytelling is so descriptive of the surroundings and the wildlife he discusses it makes you feel you are walking with him into the deep forest, looking down at a deer from a tree stand, or walking along a creek watching for deer on the bank. Byron masterfully organized the information in the book to make it easy to read. The photos are captivating, and they have detailed labels. I found nothing I disliked in this book. The editing is excellent; there was only one minor error. Because of the reasons above, this book deserves a 5 out of 5-star rating. The book is an outstanding choice for people interested in this sport and a perfect gift for archers.

This is a wonderfully inspiring review. Thank you for creating it and for introducing me to this book. As a barebow longbow and target recurve archer on a farm with many deer, I am delighted to discover Byron Ferguson's work. I'll be adding this to my "Want to Read" shelf.
