Lauri Burns had a difficult life. By the time she was just twenty-three, she had to endure a lot, from being placed in an asylum to a home meant for misfits, followed by group homes and a juvenile hall. With no one to support her, she struggled with addiction and lost custody of her three-year-old daughter. She was arrested multiple times for prostitution and even experienced terrible things like being abducted and raped by armed men who left her to die. Her hopelessness left her convinced that God hated her and that all her sufferings were due to the wrongs committed in her past life. In this book, she shares situations that led her to extend her faith in the actor George Burns. She addressed her prayers to George through the God box. When our intentions are pure, it does not matter if we direct our prayers to a dog or a stone. The only thing that matters is that your prayers will find their way when the moment is ripe. This book beautifully illustrates the idea that there is a guiding force behind all our experiences and might convince even the most cynical humans of His presence.

I appreciate that the author helps us see how we worry excessively about simple events and blow them out of proportion in our minds. She explains how worrying and negative thoughts are non-decision-making entities. Worrying can only succeed in firmly rooting us in self-doubt. Through the events in her personal life, she reiterates the transformative power of affirmation. Her writing beautifully captures the emotions each one of them experiences along the way. Through this book, she urges readers to manifest and reassures them there is always a helping hand waiting to support them; everyone is just a prayer away. Her lighthearted and witty comments bring a joyful tone to the narrative, making it enjoyable despite the serious topics discussed. I was initially drawn in by the eye-catching cover; it was the overview and the preface that had me hooked. Access to her YouTube channel allowed a peek into the thoughtfully created safe spaces she played a key role in creating.

Although I did encounter errors, they did not hamper my overall reading experience. I recommend a quick round of editing to ensure an error-free delight for the readers. The subject matter deals with various challenges faced by foster kids, including physical and sexual abuse, and it also has some strong language, making the book unsuitable for a younger audience. I recommend this book to adults who can handle heavy emotions and moments that might make you cry. Some parts discuss finding a connection with a higher power during our life journey, which is tackled without negativity toward any religion. Overall, the author has a fun personality, and she balances the heavy topic well with her positive outlook. Hence, I gladly rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

While I do believe that a person’s prayers are answered in the proper time, I also think that who they are directed to IS important. I’m glad, however, that Lauri was able to find what she needed. Thanks!

Although the events carry a lot of pain, and I didn't agree about the non importance to whom we pray for, the author crafted the transformation in a skillful and positive way. Focusing on what needs to be done. Important details as caring or making programs that help foster children after they became adult.

Your review covers a great book. Thank you for reviewing this inspirational memoir, and I treasure Lauri's sharing of her experiences.
