A Heart’s Hole Heals: A Journey of Positive Perseverance by Sonja Crosby was an inspiring, spiritual, nonfiction book about love, loss, and perseverance. I was excited to read that this true story was based in Michigan, around the city where I live! Because of this, the story was far more relatable for me versus if the setting had been in an unfamiliar city. It’s a sweet but sad story and I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing it. I rate this book 4 out of 5.

Something I admired about the author’s writing was how personal and thought-provoking it was. It absolutely broke my heart to read about the author’s husband and their relationship. They sounded like a beautiful, happy, and fulfilled couple. To have that end so soon, prematurely, it hurt to read about. This story hits close to home; I deeply fear losing my spouse, so in a way, this directly mirrors my greatest fear in life. The author handles this tragedy with grace and strong faith, never wavering even in the face of the biggest heartbreak imaginable. I hope to one day have even an ounce of the courage that Sonja Crosby has.

I found a small number of mistakes in this book, which is the only reason I deducted one star from my rating. Although it wasn’t perfect, it was still highly enjoyable. I suggest having another set of eyes carefully read this or re-edit it, but overall, I admire the amount of work that clearly went into this book.

Overall, A Heart’s Hole Heals: A Journey of Positive Perseverance was a wholesome read with a lot of inspiring qualities. I’d suggest this book to everyone who enjoys nonfiction or anyone looking for an inspiring, spiritual story of resilience. I wouldn’t recommend this to readers who aren’t religious or spiritual, because there are a lot of themes related to faith.
