Review of Girl Grit
"Girl Grit: Savage Not Average" by Dr. Alexandra Elinsky is a powerful book written to empower and revitalize every female. It is a general heads-up to the female gender informing them about their rights as humans to live their lives on their terms and individuality and not a mandatory responsibility to society at the expense of their dreams and choice of life. Dr. Elinsky, a business psychologist, opened up with utmost honesty about her dire experiences in life through this piece to reach out to the mindset of the female gender around the world to have a deeper look, realize, and act upon the imbalance about gender roles, inferiority complex, internalized abuse, rape, and other life-damaging effects of the existing injustice trailing the female gender. Her central message is clear: gender equality and female empowerment matter. With this book, she inspires every woman to awaken the ‘FIRE WOMAN’ within: an independent and self-sufficient woman.
Dr. Elinsky begins by creating awareness of how special every woman is, highlighting how society continually diminishes their value. She emphasizes that women are powerful enough to recreate themselves, rise, and shine against all odds. She also explains how the absence of love early in life can lead individuals to seek that missing love in romantic relationships, often leaving them vulnerable to exploitation in unfortunate situations.
The author specifically explained that there is nothing wrong with being female. She also states that every female deserves complete sexual freedom as much as males. Readers will notice how she emphasized the topic of gender roles in marriages: how we live with certain misconceptions that are unfair to women, giving men a free pass to take advantage of these societal norms and having their wives suffer for it. The author focused on the inhumane personality she described as 'the abuser,' being misogynistic men and sometimes even women who mistreat women as though they are lesser individuals. She shared her encounter with rape, an incident she used to encourage women to reclaim their power from abusive men and rise above the crippling aftereffects.
I appreciate that the author made it clear she isn’t against men, but rather against the specific type of man she refers to as “the abuser.” She expressed both her love for men and her passion for sex, which helped me realize that women enjoy sex just as much as men do. I also learned that women should claim their right to sexual freedom and let go of the deeply ingrained belief that they must preserve themselves for a man who might not be doing the same. Waiting to be chosen and married by such a man only limits their sense of self and power. This book is fascinating; I could sense the grit and fire within the author in every point she put forward. I enjoyed how honest she was in telling her own story in the bid to establish the level of trust required to communicate effectively.
There wasn’t anything I could consider a dislike. I found only a couple of errors, but they did not affect my enjoyment or understanding of the book in any way. This book gets a 5 out of 5 stars rating because of its ability to reform its readers, whether male or female. There is also a sweet stream of communication between the author and the reader in the way the book is written, which feels very intentional.
I recommend this book to every female; knowing yourself and knowing that you matter are the key steps to finding your power and bringing to life the 'FIRE WOMAN' from within. I also recommend this book to males who go through the same struggles with self-esteem of any sort. Also, I specifically recommend this book to misogynistic people with the hope that they realize that females are humans and they deserve equal rights.
