I Am That I Am by Edward B. Kirkwood is an eye-opening exploration into the origin of the human story. The book begins with the creation story and then progresses to discuss the etymology of names and the fascinating insights into their origins and meanings. It also touches on various topics like holy matrimony, polygamy, the seed of the woman, the story of Lilith and its significance, and the two tales surrounding the creation of Eve.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. I would first like to commend the author for his inclusion of footnotes which contained reference links to everything that he mentioned. It allowed easy access for those still wanting to seek further knowledge concerning the topics discussed. It also, in my opinion, proved that this book contains credible facts and sources. This book goes beyond the general knowledge of the scripture. As someone who grew up in a Christian home and is well-versed in the teachings of the Bible, I still had a lot of knowledge to gain from this book. For example, I discovered that there are controversial beliefs surrounding the creation of Eve. This book served as an eye-opener to me. I also learnt what the scriptures had to say concerning some of our major contemporary issues of today. Firstly, I discovered that God fashioned women not merely as an afterthought or a subordinate entity; rather, they stand as vital counterparts to men, complementing their strengths, compensating for their weaknesses, and enriching their existence in ways that transcend mere companionship. They are not just auxiliary figures. Also on the issue of polygamy, I learnt that Al-Maawardi's interpretation suggests that polygamy, when practised responsibly and with due consideration for the welfare of all parties involved, can serve as a means of addressing social injustices and providing for those in need. These are just a few of the many lessons you stand to learn from reading this book.

This is a very short book so I was able to finish it within a few hours of picking it up, thanks to the author's concise writing style. I also found no grammatical errors in the book, which made my reading experience a seamless one. Despite how beautiful this book is, it didn’t come without its faults. While I appreciate how concise the author tried to be, I felt that the initial chapters of this book always ended abruptly. It felt rushed and lacked in-depth knowledge, though they improved as the book progressed. For this reason, I deducted one star and rated it a 4 out of 5.

I recommend this book to those who are looking to become more informed about the stories of the Bible.

This is my first review. From what I read in the review there are some concerning factors but nonetheless a good read especially because there are stories pertaining to the Bible.

Wow, such an enlightening book. Indeed, people who are Christians and those still curious about the Bible should give it a chance because it seems to be going in depth. I love the footnotes aspect, because it shows the author did a thorough research on the subject.
‘When you do a good deed, people are grateful, and that creates a nice feeling inside you; and then because it feels good, that makes you want to do more good deeds. That repetition is the cycle of goodness.’
