[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "My 50/50 rule" by Richard Bassoff.]
My 50/50 Rule by Richard Bassoff is a book about success, drive, commitment, and everything it takes to build a successful business, from having a great attitude to having the right people working with you.
The author of this book does all of this by having a golden rule, the 50/50 rule: you have a 50% probability of succeeding and a 50% probability of not succeeding, the action you will take has a 50% probability of working out and a 50% probability of not working out, you have a 50% probability of landing that job and a 50% probability of not landing that job, and so on. For me, the takeaway from this is we have to try. Either you will succeed, or you will not, but the odds are you might succeed, you might get the job, you might meet the right people, etc., so why not try it?
But the author is clear that odds are not the only things necessary. By using his life experience and giving us examples of his plumbing businesses and how he built them to success and later sold them, the author provides many tips and useful best practices to follow that you can apply to many aspects of your life. Not only work-related, but also, I think the 50/50 rule is a great philosophy to follow.
I’m giving the book 4 out of 5 stars. I like how well explained the book is and how the 50/50 rule can be applied. I like how the book is divided into clear chapters and how the author goes into detail about everything that was needed for his businesses to succeed, from having the right customer service people, right tech people, right bookkeeper, right office manager, right service manager, etc., to having the right attitude himself. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because I found several grammar errors that could have been easily spotted in editing.
But overall, I think this is a great book, and I recommend it to everyone who wants to start a business and also to anyone who wants to read about the 50/50 rule just for general improvement in their lives. The book is fairly short, so it is a fast read with a lot of useful information. Highly recommended.
