The Ultimate Guide to Understanding Your Cat by Jia Mau is an excellent book for any cat lover. The book provides information about owning a cat. The book is great for any new cat owner as well as anyone who has owned cats for a long time. The book includes useful information ranging from caring for a kitten to caring for an elderly cat. The author also provides information based on their experience of how one can keep their cat entertained and sufficiently exercised.

I really enjoyed the chapters explaining different cat behaviors. It is very interesting to learn how cats and owners adapt to communicating with each other. Cats rarely meow at each other or other animals, and it is more of an adaptation for human interaction.

I also especially liked the last chapter on elderly cats, as I haven’t had much experience with that specific area. The images of cats throughout the book were a fun addition to the book as a whole. Who doesn’t love viewing cute images of cats? I was also surprised that cat owners should brush their cats' teeth on a regular basis. This isn't something I have ever done with my cat, and I am not sure if I would try it out with my 10-year-old cat at this stage, but the topic helped me understand the importance of my cat's dental health.

I would have liked to see more information on cats' behavior, maybe more examples of why they do certain things, such as wanting to be on your shoulders or why they like to be higher up, like on the highest shelf of a cupboard or on top of a wardrobe, and why some cats like to drink out of your glass of water or a bathroom basin instead of using their water bowl. I was really excited to read this chapter and was slightly disappointed that the book did not explore this further.

Overall, The Ultimate Guide to Understanding Your Cat by Jia Mau is a great guide for any cat owner or cat lover wanting to learn more about how to better care for their cat throughout their life. Even though I would have liked to see more in the chapter about cat behavior, I will still give this book a solid 5 out of 5 rating.
