Kitchen Chaos to Culinary Bliss: Organize and Enjoy Cooking by Mary Lummerding, is a guidebook for beginners. The book begins with motivation for cooking at home and lists the benefits of home cooking. It covers topics like kitchen organization, essential kitchen supplies, buying and organizing tools and equipment, food storage, and cooking suggestions. Time management for cooking is made easier through planning, preparation, and proper storage. The tips and suggestions are quite helpful and include the basics, like buying and storing pots and pans, knives, utensils, cutlery, and other equipment, describing how to select and use them properly according to need. The best of the suggestions include planning meals for a week and buying and storing the ingredients according to their uses and shelf life.

The author presents a separate chapter on grocery shopping, offering many remarkable tips on saving money, time, and effort. What I liked the most was the discussion of herbs—shelf life, uses, storing tips, and precautions—all arranged in tabular form. Tips on how to make use of the storage available—refrigerator, freezer, and cupboards—are very helpful, especially for someone with a small space and a small budget. Lastly, the author has given some simple and easy-to-cook recipes that look very tempting in the photographs. For reluctant cooks, the author suggests music and dance to accompany them in the kitchen, and I agree that it is a feasible and motivational addition to the kitchen chores.

The book is written in simple language using short and simple, easy-to-follow sentences. It does not feel like a professional guide; it feels like some useful advice from an experienced close friend or a family member who shares her expertise and skills with you. I found the book very useful and to the point. There is nothing unnecessary or impractical. There were no errors or typos, the fact indicating an exceptionally good editing. I did not find anything to dislike about the book. My overall rating of the book is a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.

A brief account of the author's journey from helping her mother in the kitchen to becoming a professional cook and cooking coach to an author is captivating and inspiring. Additionally, raising her son with ADHD at the same time is awe-inspiring, and her willingness to share her knowledge is remarkable. The book also includes links for the readers to get a downloadable free gift and a link to her website to seek help. The book is most suitable for beginners or someone who has never cooked alone or managed a kitchen independently.
