Bots & Brilliance: 101 Things You Should Know About Artificial Intelligence

By John Binks

I will begin this review by quoting the author's description of his book: "It is an invitation to a conversation, a journey, a collective effort to harness the power of AI with wisdom, ethics, and a vision for a better world." He could not have said it any better. It is written in terms everyone can understand and relate to. The book is a journey through many facets of AI with a dash of humor to keep things light-hearted. I love that the author uses humor; his humor engaged me and made it easier for me to retain what I was reading. The structured format of the information makes the book easier to digest. The book is written in knowledgeable, easy-going terms.

The book is organized in a very intentional way. It dedicates a chapter to the top areas of AI, including AI for the Complete Beginner, AI for Your Daily Life, The Future of AI, and AI and Management. These are just a few of the areas. Each chapter is subdivided into 10 points of interest. Each point of interest is numbered 1 through 101, as the title implies, "101 Things You Should Know About Artificial Intelligence." AI and Sustainability: Saving the Planet, AI for Managers: Decision Support Systems, plus 99 additional points of interest are listed.

AI is impacting industries worldwide. Some industries impacted are real estate, law, journalism, and education. The author discusses the role of AI in corporate governance, business strategy, and employee training and provides a roadmap for managers and leaders to integrate AI into their workplaces. Agriculture, marketing, and customer service are also covered.

AI impacts our daily lives via streaming services, social media, owning a smartphone, or using a music service that creates playlists based on our preferences. Other areas impacted are healthcare, finances, and gaming, to name a few. The concern I have is whether our lives are being over-analyzed to the point where we find ourselves trapped in an echo chamber created by AI. Will we only receive articles, product advertisements, and political news based on what AI has deduced our likes to be?

My favorite aspect of the book is the author's inclusion of additional resources for readers to explore beyond its content. I have ascertained from reading this book that it is essential to stay informed about current and future emerging technologies.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for its valuable information presented in bite-sized chunks using relatable and understandable language. If you are looking to ease into AI, this is the book. The author has written three books about artificial intelligence. I highly recommend the book titled Bots & Bytes: An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, ChatGPT, and Machine Learning. It also received 5 out of 5 stars from me. His first book, titled "Bots & Bosses: The Hilariously Chaotic Symphony of Management in the Age of AI," sounds intriguing and will be next on my reading list.

Concerning the editing of this book, there were a few more grammatical errors than I like to see, but they do nothing to discredit what an informative book this is. I recommend this book to individuals who are interested in learning about AI. As far as profanity or sexual content in the book, there is none.

AI, indeed, is a topic that many would view with either excitement or fear, or a mixture of the two, and hence I am happy to learn that in this book, the author employs humor to make the conversation a bit lighthearted. This is an important book as AI is impacting individuals, industries, and more and this will only increase. Thank you, @Bobbie Wolf, for the captivating review.
