Aces High by Penny Hodgson is one of the most remarkable books I’ve read in a while. I am not usually the greatest fan of books that seem to be too harsh or straight to the point, as this one does, but I was left speechless with the quality of both the research and the writing techniques in this book.

Penny Hodgson describes what it means to be a person constructed by childhood trauma, especially to be subjected to ACEs, which means to be affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences. Not only are these people encouraged to shadow those experiences, but also to revive them at all times, which can be quite confusing. However, this incredible author shares her personal story of how she transformed her traumas, her pain, and her experiences into great tools without letting them define her as a person.

I have to admit that I found this book remarkable, not due to the concept of the book or the rawness behind some of the experiences described by the author, but rather because the author herself is brilliant. The writing style is engaging, the storytelling is both honest and hopeful, and there is not a single dull moment in this book. In the end, we are left with a sense of hope, strength, and possibilities, which is such a great feeling after what I thought would be just another harsh reading experience.

Overall, I don’t think I can point out a single downside to this book. I found no errors, which leads me to say the book was exceptionally well edited.

This book is incredible, and I believe this can be a powerful tool for those who want to overcome childhood trauma or any other form of pain that has constructed them and is, unfortunately, following them for their entire lives. Finally, I can say with confidence that this book deserves, without a doubt, 5 out of 5 stars.

This is what it means to transform stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Apart from transforming her trauma into lessons, the author has also told her story really well that the book has earned a perfect rating. I am hopeful that this will definitely be of impact to many more. Thank you, @Patrícia Gomes, for the review.
