The Truth About Plumbing by Avram Friedman is a short book about plumbing and the ironies of life. Initially, he explains that he is using a computer and loves the modern luxuries of life. Then he apologizes to his children for leaving the planet a mess because of them. Our problems stem from humans inhabiting the Earth and creating unnatural plumbing systems, which will ultimately fail.

I enjoyed Mr. Friedman’s humor and also cringed at the problems we have all encountered. They are nightmares that we cannot avoid fixing, and men did not aspire to make a career of this. They did not foresee the abuse and litigation that are part of the job. The author has personal experience with situations that many of us will only pay to fix, never seeing the sordid experiences encountered by the plumber. Mr. Friendman's personal stories are humorous. Oddly enough, the subject of waste is fascinating, provided you are not the one dealing with it. Pipes are futile because there is no human solution that is 100% guaranteed to work or be safe forever. The author discusses many problems that can and will go wrong eventually. His final solution is to adapt to the earth’s cycles instead of trying to control them with plumbing. His suggestions are far-fetched, evolving into another form of life, housed in an actual tree, like elves.

I give the book 3 out of 5 stars because there are numerous grammatical errors. I enjoyed it at the beginning. The in-depth explanation about pipes and valves became a bit tedious. I respect the author for the knowledge he possesses about plumbing and his humorous personal stories. I was a little confused whether Mr. Friedman wants us to have never existed, leaving the planet pristine, or put up with the necessary evils. I suppose this is the irony of human existence.

Your rating of 3 out of 5 stars reflects both your enjoyment of its unique perspective and your practical feedback. The mention of numerous grammatical errors and parts becoming "a bit tedious" with in-depth explanations on pipes and valves are valid critiques for readability. However, your respect for the author's knowledge and humor shines through.
