The altitude journals by Dave Mauro takes you on a journey all around the world. Dave is not a professional mountain climber and yet he stood atop the highest points of each continent (and the world) also known as Seven Summits.

If you ever wondered why people do such a dangerous thing like climb mountains. This book has answers to all of your questions. At the age of 44 Dave Mauro started climbing mountains. If you think that is not what people do that age, you might change your mind after reading the book. I liked the book from the beginning. The moment I read the first chapter I knew it’s going to be interesting and breathtaking. And it did not disappoint. The author shares his personal struggles and difficulties with simple words that you can relate, because honestly, who hasn’t been there. Every climb was different from one another and it wasn’t easy both physically and mentally.

As a first novel, it’s written very thoughtfully and I can tell that he put a lot of work in it. All chapters are not too long, not too short you don’t get bored by the storyline every scene is depicted very lively so it feels like you are a part of the team. Also, it is not very technical, but I’ve learned some interesting facts. Contains a little bit of strong language but more in a fun way, not aggressive.

This book will be interesting to a wide range of readers. If you are an amateur mountain climber, you can learn some tips and tricks, like how to behave on a high altitude. If you like travelling you will find a lot of interesting things about culture and nature on every continent (including Antarctica). If you at a low point in your life, this book will help you through. And if you just like the books with the happy ending, it is perfect for you.

While reading the book I was eager to know what is going to happen next and at the same time hope that everyone will come back home safely. I rate this book 4 out of 4 for honesty and good sense of humor. I think it is a very inspiring story and a reminder to all of us that we should always follow our dreams and never give up no matter what. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Hi Oxana. I've also just finished this book and found it inspiring, just as you say. It's probably one that I will read again and again, and I hope lots of people find it and enjoy it just as much as we obviously both did.
