[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Dawning of the Matriarch Society" by Alan Paine.]

Do you envisage a society where women dominate the political stage? Do you dream of a time when feminism will be not about equality but equity? In essence, do you see women as spiritual beings and goddesses? If you have answered yes to more than one of these questions, then I recommend Dawning of the Matriarch Society by Alan Paine to you.

Alan Paine believes humanity as we know it is on the brink of extinction as evidenced by falling birth rates across developed countries. He believes the oppression and subjugation of women is a deciding factor in this race towards extinction. Abhorring feminism as practiced today, he claims it tries to change women into aggressive men, pushing for competition. Alan envisions a time when women take center stage in the society, inspiring goodwill and healing. Such women would be free in every sense of the word, having no one tell them what to do. He describes his thoughts, opinions and visions in this book.

I did not like this book. The writing style was too aggressive. It went back and forth between the pragmatic and the dogmatic. I felt like the author was trying to shove his opinions down my throat while dismissing any contrary opinions as idiotic. An example is when he berated Noam Chomsky, a professor at MIT for saying pornography humiliates and degrades women. He felt so put off by Chomsky’s opinion that he used choice words on him. I would like to believe there are better ways to convey your message without taking a swipe at people for their beliefs. I think many people might feel offended by this book.

There were also several confusing points. For example, the author believes the love of women is what can lead men to spiritual enlightenment. He claims to be an atheist, yet constantly mentions an earthly goddess of creation and how she must be revered. He dislikes religion, yet one message I got from this book is that he seeks a new religion or movement devoted to his goddess of creation. I say pick a struggle. The constant back and forth did not make this book very enjoyable.

Nonetheless, I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. This is because I believe as much as I did not like this book, some people might. At the very least, I love the cover art. And besides the aggression and confusion, it could do with another round of editing. I leave this review with Alan Paine’s blunt words:

Just because you have an opinion does not mean it is a valid opinion or that you should share it with the rest of us.

Alrightie then. This is definitely not my kind of book. I'm open to viewpoints other than mine, but not at the expense of degrading others. I am also not convinced that a matriarchal society is going to stop where the world is headed. So, thanks for the review, but no thanks.

My goodness, this book sounds unpleasant. How sad that such an important topic was handled so ineptly. I did, however, really enjoy reading your review. Very honest and balanced. The title and cover of this book was really interesting to me, and I might have picked it up if not for your review. I believe the matriarchy does need to rise up and take it's place, but not from an aggressive masculine perspective. Glad to skip this one. Thanks for another great review.

Loved the "alrightie then". that just about sums it up.

Wow, that sounds like a book to pass on. As for the opening questions, I think a no on at least two of them would be my answer. An equitable society for both men and women would be nice, though it is difficult to imagine it being a possibility in this world. Thanks for the honest and thoughtful review.

My feelings exactly! The contents of the book didn't do justice to the title at all.

Your final quote sums it up beautifully! I shall give this one a miss.

Thank you Eva. The title and cover drew me in as well, but they turned out to be akin to booby traps. It’s such a shame that he made a mess of such an important subject.
