Roadmap to the End of Days is a very interesting explanation of Jewish eschatology, or study of humanity’s final judgment from a theological perspective. I was excited to read the book as I have studied several different Christian eschatological viewpoints. The topic is fascinating because it speaks of a very possible future, but it also inspires reflection. This book did both, and certainly did not disappoint!

This is the third book in a series where Daniel Friedmann explores Creation and the history of mankind from the unique perspective of a Jewish theologian. His work is not to be taken lightly! It may easily be inferred that Mr. Friedmann is an incredible scholar, for the scope and richness of the knowledge he provides in his work shows that he has “done his homework”.

Roadmap to the End of Days begins with an introductory chapter to help you organize the dense information ahead. Over the next 8 chapters the book then delves into topics such as the purpose of humanity and its evidence throughout history; a universal timeline that the author breaks down into a pattern over 6,000 years and then investigates more closely in the last few hundred years; and then an explanation of the time we are in and what should come, given the overarching pattern. In the last chapter, Mr. Friedmann provides a conclusion and his thoughts on how this book should influence how we live.

Whether or not you are a student of eschatology, the information in this book is readily understandable. The author does a splendid job of reviewing pertinent information, providing charts and graphs, and explaining in simple terms what he has found. I never found that I was entirely lost. The book is, however, incredibly dense, so be forewarned that you may have to reference the extensive appendices the author provides. If you are geeky about Biblical patterns and deeper meanings, the appendices will be a wonderful reference for you and will likely contain information that will be new to you. The quality and quantity of information was what I liked the best about this book; it was an entirely new perspective to me and I really appreciated the amount of care that was given to each piece of information. There really wasn't anything I truly disliked; I would have liked to hear his perspective on how Jesus fits into the timeline but unfortunately I realize that was not relevant given his perspective! However, if you do have any burning questions he provides his contact information so I can have my questions answered.

For the purpose of the book, I give it a 4 out of 4 stars. That doesn’t mean that I entirely agree with his conclusions or ascribe to his ideas, but I certainly found it fascinating, in-depth, and easy (enough) to read given the topic. I do also think that he isn’t pushy or dogmatic about his findings, so I still felt comfortable disagreeing with him while I read. As far as the editing, I did not find a single glaring error. There were a few differences in text type and size, and I did wish the format I read it in had a drop-down table of contents, but I found a way to navigate without one. There were some documents and quotes that he provides that could have contained errors that I wouldn’t have recognized due to lack of familiarity, but as I said I didn’t notice any.

This sounds intriguing. Thank you for the excellent review. I have hesitated over choosing this book in the past, but if it is non pushy as you say, then I will certainly give it a try.
