Review: Roadmap to the End of Days by Daniel Friedmann.
History has beginning, dispitched by a
creation story, culminating in the
appearance of human has an end,
described by a time period known as
“The End of Days”
With this submission, Friedmann opens up a long thrilling and breathtaking vista of spiritual navigation, culminating into Messianic Era. Roadmap to the End of Days is not a historical fiction by the rigid interpretation of the phrase or a theological exercise aims at wooing humanity into End Time “hallucination” but a collection of Biblical events creeping towards a precise and definite destination. The book can be rightly described as encyclopedia of eschatology or a blueprint of the messianic age. The author begins by establishing the relationship between the creation story, essentially the Seventh Day Rest and the current Seventh Millennium (Sabbatical Year) proceeded by 6000 years of Biblical History. He further foresees the building of the third temple (the first two were destroyed by the Assyrian and Roman forces) as marking the reinstatement of divine presence in the world which was lost to sinfulness of man at Garden of Eden and to the aforementioned invasions. Most profoundly in his postulation, is the return of Jewish nation to the Palestine after centuries of exile experiences across the nations of the world as elaborated in the Books of Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel.
God shall take you from the
nations and gather you from
the lands in which you were
scattered (Ezekiel 36:24)
This migration which has result in struggles between the Arabs and Israel will assume a disturbing and gloomy proportion by 2072 when the Persian nations notably the descendants of Ishmael and the descendant of Esau are expected to join forces against the descendants of Jacob (Israel). Why would Hitler (A modern version of Biblical Amalekite) would consider Holocaust as important as winning World War II ? The fall of Berlin wall, The Cold War and so on are captured as integral components of roadmaps to the End of Days.
Roadmap to the End of Days may not be popular among 21st century digitized minds and can be even be reduced to a mere theological fantasy, but I am optimistic that Friedmann never seeks for popularity contest but has an obligation to redeem the world, suffocating in the blindfolding smoke of Big Bang and Darwin theories. However, one aspect of the author’s analysis that seemly too presumptuous is his subscription to definite date and time in postulating future occurrences. Fortunately, he concedes to the fact that the scenarios for the End of Days cannot be “completely work out and what the scriptures mean will not be clear” until we get there.
One unique feature of the book is the manner the author dissects and connects salient political issues with events of End Time. A notable instance is cited in 1987 signing of a proclamation by President Ronald Reagan regarding “The historical tradition of ethical values and principles which have been the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization” hitherto known as the seven Noahide laws passed through God to Moses in Mount Sinai.
The language is straight forward enough to enable every reader to navigate with the author without many hitches. However, I find it difficult to make up with the occurrences of “Ben” attached to names of Biblical personalities. Such instance is captured in chapter three “How are we to recognize Messiah ben David when he comes? Such innovation has not yet enjoyed standard universal linguistic space. This little hiccup however, is not compelling enough to diminish 4 out of 4 stars rating of the book. The Roadmap to the End of Days is a must read for every adherent of Abrahamic religions and theologian.
