Have you ever heard people saying the end of time is coming because the world seems to be in such a mixed-up and violent place? Do you wonder if maybe Earth is doomed to end in your lifetime? Roadmap To The End Of Days by Daniel Friedmann explores these questions using the Torah and the Old Testament from the Bible.
Daniel Friedmann was the CEO of an aerospace company in Canada and calls himself a student of religion. He has written several books based on his studies of the Jewish faith and other religions to explain history. This book focuses on what he calls the Devine Plan of God along with human origin, world history and how it is forecasted in the Bible, along with our destiny.
I decided to read this book because I was interested in a different story for the end of the world. I am not Jewish and not a scholar of the Bible, so much of the book was confusing for me, although the author does try and make the information clear and defines terms that may be unknown to non-Jewish people. There are hyperlinks throughout the text which are useful, if the reader doesn't mind going back and forth in the book while reading. I could tell the book was written by an engineer, because it is logically laid out and organized. There is a detailed appendix at the end along with a glossary and tables throughout. I found the visual descriptions confusing including the detailed timelines.
The book starts with an introduction which clearly sets out the organizational structure of the book and the concepts the author is attempting to elucidate. He goes into what he calls the Cosmic Purpose and the Amalek interference. This idea of the Amalek nation or peoples confused me although the author does try to explain it. Perhaps his other books went into detail about this. He then describes the Messianic Era, which sounded like the Golden Age to me.
What I gleamed from my very limited understanding of religion is the author proposes that by using the Jewish Bible and the Torah and studying it, you can predict when the Messianic Era, or End of Days, will occur. I don't think it will be a spoiler to say it won't happen in my lifetime.
This book is definitely based on the Jewish faith including their mysticism. This is not based on the New Testament or the Book of Revelations of the Christian faith, so readers who believe in the Christian faith may not agree with the thesis of this book. Jesus is not mentioned or the events of the New Testament. I did appreciate the author saying that God gives humankind free will and humans will set the timeline according to their actions, to a point. At some point, the author feels, God will take over.
I recommend this book for people of the Jewish faith or for people who are curious about when and how the world may end. I did not find the book 'preachy' at all and actually found it fascinating although I am not a believer in any formal religion. It is a small book but packed densely with information.
I rate this book four out of four stars for a well organized religious book.
