I picked up Blessed Beyond Measure: Getting back to the Basic of what we were called to do [sic] by K. Denise McQueen because I was looking forward to reading a new book of Christian guidance. I enjoy reading books that offer wisdom on spiritual growth and reflection on the Word of God. I was disappointed. I should have known not to expect too much after recognizing the grammatical errors in the title. However, I approached this book with the hope that I would learn from the author and would have some new aspect of the Word to dwell on.

I believe that the author wrote this book with adult women as a primary audience. She gives good advice on how women should present themselves, how they should respect themselves, and how they should fit into a family unit. There is even a chapter on “How to Meet Your Soul Mate.” McQueen successfully adds scripture in each chapter to support her ideas, and she stays focused on how women can become better followers of Jesus Christ. Perhaps the most interesting part of the book, though, is the appendix called “B.I.B.L.E: Basic Instructions before Leaving Earth.” This section gives descriptions of each separate book of the Bible, and these books (well, most of them) are hyperlinked to www.biblestudytools.com for more reading and study.

I really wanted to like this book. It was incredibly difficult, though, to get past the grammatical errors. They are rampant. Even in the Introduction, McQueen twice refers to Blessed Beyond Measure as a “novel,” even though it is clearly a non-fiction book. There are numerous issues with run-on sentences, fragments, and comma splices, indicating to me that this author needed a much more experienced editor. All of the author’s points could have been made much clearer and more powerful with some help with sentence structure.

I am disappointed to give Blessed Beyond Measure by K. Denise McQueen 1 out of 4 stars. Parts of the book were downright frustrating to read because the lack of proper editing left a mess. I don’t feel I can even offer this up as a 2-star book because it needs so much revising.

If you are a Christian woman who is willing to wade through tangled paragraphs to get advice you may already have received, this book is for you. I did not take issue with anything she said, as it was all Biblical. It was just hard to decipher.

If you would like a book guiding you into a deep walk through scripture, look elsewhere.

It sounds like the author has quite a bit to offer regardless of the errors. It's too bad so many skip getting a professional proofreader. It's such an important step. Sorry you had to wade through this one.

The enlightenment you will get from this book seems to be not worth the arduous journey. But I admit that's a good acronym there (BIBLE).

I am sure the author has much to thank the Lord for. I hope she will also be blessed with a good editor.

Its a great pity after all the effort that has clearly gone into compiling this book. Still, you managed to get through it, and it seems like the content might be fairly good even if the editing was shocking. I hope you managed to get something useful out of it in the end. Thank you.

You are on target. There is a lot of good advice in this book. This was apparently her first attempt at publishing, and I hope she will connect with someone who can help her polish her work.

Thanks for the read! :D

I do, too. Her publishing career and her ministry could go in a new direction, if so.

Thanks for the read! :D
