The denouement was fast-paced, with a quick transition of events in the final scene. I'm not sure whether their portrayal was forced or pure, given the limited exposure they received, but one thing is certain: this book will be followed by a sequel. Perhaps this part will explain why such an occurrence occurred and why they assisted Rion and Aries in surviving and escaping from the tragedy. I'm so excited for the next sequel if there is one. I'm sure I'll commit to reading the book in one sitting again.

I would have preferred a more realistic ending. I see no genuine reason why Aquila and Perseus would have such a complete change of heart. Seems generic.

Aquila and Perseus‘s about-turn did seem like an odd turn of events. I was surprised when they decided to help Rion. Their change of heart felt a bit forced to me given that an adequate enough reason was not given to explain it.

The ending was rushed, but it wasn't out of the context. The changing of Perseus so easily was unexpected but it prepared us for the sequel

I also was shocked by that. For me, it was a little unrealistic. Even though bad guys can turn good and good guys are capable of going bad, I feel like it's going too fast in this case. I would like to see more transformation that makes the predators turn good little by little.

Yeah, I think it was too quick for Aquila and Perseus to have sacrificed themselves for Rion. What was that motive for doing such, or was the author aware of this sudden rush of character. I still would love to know.

I agree. I think the change of heart within the Predators came too quickly, and it felt rushed. That kind of character development doesn't happen in minutes very often. It felt like a convenient way for the writer to get Rion and his friends where they needed to be.

The sudden plot twist was unexpected and suggests that the ending was rushed. However, more about the reasons for Aquila and Perseus's change in motives may be revealed in the next book. Let's wait and see.

I do think that the Predators were too easily swayed from what was their primary objective. From the time that we met them, they were concerned only with the return of their friend and mentor. They showed absolutely no regard for innocents or people who didn’t share their concerns. I was confused by their being interested in helping others at the expense of themselves.

While the end came as a surprise, the sudden turn of events even made the story more intriguing. I never anticipated Aquila and Perseus to sacrifice themselves to save Rion. I thought I was day-dreaming at some point.

I agree with you. It was so unlike Aquila and Perseus to help Rion let alone sacrifice themselves. Came as a shocker to me.

I agree that the Predators did flip to heroes rather suddenly, but I feel that can be explained by the fact that the group used to be a family. They also all had a common enemy. I like that this story had an unexpected ending and it was left open enough to crave more. I look forward to part 2.

This was one of the things I didn’t really like about this book. The shift was too dramatic and felt like the author was trying to rush to the end of the book. It was way out of line for Aquila and Perseus. We still have the next book to wait for. Maybe it would answer all of our many questions.

I understand it too; for it it just ties back to the question and issues of "is the book too fast paced?". I think the change did come out of left field; and would have been more believable if there was time to bond. I suppose you could argue that it all happened because they lost their mentor. But personally even with that; shouldn't they be simmering more in their anger? Aquila went as far as to blame Rion and try to Kill him. It's a bit unrealistic that she switched on a dime. Perseus I might be a bit more inclined to believe since he didn't outright blame Rion; when told of the death of their mentor.

ej_author wrote: 01 Sep 2021, 16:54 At the end of the book, I was surprised when Aquila and Perseus sacrificed themselves to Psyriin in order to let Rion and the others escape the school. Considering that they had just been trying to murder Rion minutes before, and throughout the book they had hardly been anything but hostile, it seemed really odd to me that they would suddenly be so self-sacrificial, even if they did just get beaten in a fight. Knowing for sure that Auriga died didn't seem like a powerful enough motive for Aquila and Perseus to do a complete one-eighty. Did their change of heart at the end of the book feel forced, or in character?
That's all a strategy to get them by their side and when their close enough they stab them at the back, easy and short. But if indeed their genuine, which I doubt, then I don't know. So to me it's not a force or a change of character. I feel like they're just pretending. I just don't know why. But we'll find out their real intentions in book two.
