I think he did the right thing as if he had told people about his condition things would've turned out way worse than they already were. I agree that honesty is the best policy, but sometimes you gotta do what seems right to you.

I think that if John had revealed his amnesia, many of the following events would have changed, and the story would not have ended the same way.

Given all the troubles he had been through because of his condition, he should have been honest with it. However, that element of hiding it from others was necessary for the story to move forward.

I believe that was necessary for the development of the story, so if it was not really, his condition seems to be a personal affair, and I believe that no one has the right to question him about it as long as it doesn't interfere with his work or relationships with others, and especially if he is aware of it and the consequences, he will take responsibility for what happens to him as a result.

He should have, but I understand how difficult it is to admit such things. It takes a lot of courage to take the next step and tell the world about it.

I believe he should have been honest. What's relationship without honesty? Maybe being honest would have caused more complications but being honest is always worth the risk.

I have two reasons why I have to answer "no" to this question. Firstly, the plot is for the writer to create and I think the none disclosure suits the plot pretty well, if he had told everyone, there might not be much of a story left to tell. Secondly, it is a personal issue, regardless of the issues at hand, it's still John's truth to tell or not to tell.

While I do think he should have been honest about his amnesia, as many others are saying, this "mistake" is the setup for the whole novel and integral to the plot. It's also a revealing aspect of John's character!

I definitely think John should have been honest about his amnesia. I couldn't understand all through the book why he didn't tell someone about that. He did mention how he thought there was a conspiracy somehow but I think so much of his trouble could have been prevented if he had gotten professional help from the very beginning. Everyone knew he had a head injury so it wouldn't have been something to be embarrassed about.

I think most of the struggles he faced would have been avoided if he was honest. People are generally much more patient and understanding if they know, but everyone deals with these types of things differently.

Well, if he had, the story would have taken an entirely different turn... it would also have ended earlier... So yeah...

We really do not know for sure that disclosing him amnesia would have done John any good. I do not blame him for hiding his condition because it could have opened him up to dealing with other people's feelings with regards to his condition on top of the inner emotional turmoil that it had placed on him to be suffering with amnesia.

I do think being honest about his amnesia would have saved him a lot of trouble and eliminated unnecessary stresses, but I think he had his own reasons, and I do agree that it made the book more interesting that way

The book would not have progressed if he was open about his condition. Furthermore, I think it added a sense of realism as people normally do not share information about their illness, mental or physical. In the end, it was John's decision and he chose to disclose that information.

I think John should have been honest. He would have saved himself so much trouble by being honest.
