Even though he has amnesia he is still hopeful that he will regain his reputation and be recognized in his career, this hope makes him cling to hiding the truth.

I think he's feeling a bit helpless and not in control and it's that general insecurity that drives him to be so secretive.

I think he's only trying to protect the truth. Because if everyone knows about the truth, it might affect the relationship and legacy of his works.

I think the reticence of him concerning what happened to be the most logical course of action. He might have trying to obscure something or shirk some responsibility.

I believe he was too timid to speculate on what it might imply. He might have obligations that he needs to attend to. He might not want to accept and take ownership of certain things.
