John did this so he can evade questions about the building design/plan by letting Pete answer those. He says the reason why he lied is that he wants to focus on getting better and remembering his memories.

Is this idea of his, great or terrible? At the moment, I think it's a great idea because it would allow John to focus on one thing and rid himself of possible sources of stress. How about you?

I think it was for the best. Remembering his memories would really aid to prove of he really made the building or not.

I agree with you that he did that to evade questions, He definitely could not answer a lot of questions with the lose of his memory. So, he did the best thing he could do. However, there might be some truth to it.

Since he was unwilling to let anyone know about his amnesia related to the last years or the building, I think it was the right move for him. Though it did end up tearing apart Gowan's and Pete's relationship and business.

In my opinion, it wasn't a good idea to hide his amnesia at the cost of his relationship with Pete, but yes, he wanted to evade questions. I am amazed at how long he was able to hide it without anyone figuring it out for themselves.

I think this idea was great in the moment. It allowed John to continue to hide his amnesia like he wanted. However, I was not surprised that this decision had some negative consequences in the long run.

I think that allowing Pete to take credit, however undeserved, for the design of the building was a terrible idea. As you say, it did allow John to get his bearings, but knowing what we find out later about Pete’s character, it should have been easy for John to figure out that Pete would eventually come to believe his own lies.

I think he did it to avoid answering questions; given his memory loss, he would be unable to answer many queries. As a result, he did the best he could. However, it is possible that there is some truth to it.

I think John had little choice but to say that Pete was an equal contributor to the design. John couldn't answer questions about the design and would have been deemed a fraud. Until he could regain his memory, he wouldn't know for sure.

I think it was a great idea. He had to act that way on the spur of the moment to prevent the rest from getting to know there was something wrong with him. Something as serious as having amnesia.

Considering his amnesia, John would have made a mess with answering the interview questions. So, evading the interview and delegating to Pete was a smart move.

John didn't have much choice at this point, so it was the best decision to make. In addition, this action becomes a critical turning point in the story. If he didn't lie to the reporter, then the narrative would not have been able to travel along the route chosen by the author. The lie, perpetuated over time, kept feeding Pete's ego thereby increasing the conflict between the two men. Without the lie, the subsequent events leading to the split in partnership would not be as believeable.

I think the John made the right decision by letting the Pete handle the interview's questions. At that point, he doesn't have so much option to hide his lie about the amnesia.
