I think he felt relieved that the building was gone. The constant lying and pretending he had to do to hide his amnesia had to be stressful. Then came the disastrous television interview and all of the fallout from it. I think he was glad to be rid of the building, and also to get revenge on those who he felt had wronged him.

I believe he felt at ease when the building burned down because he couldn't bear seeing others take credit for it. In addition, it represented humiliation for him in certain ways.

I would say it is because the building has been burnt down. After all, he was betrayed by Pete and Zenith. It's a fulfillment on his path.

I lean more towards the second option. He finally came up with his reason of why he designed the building and he didn’t want it to remain standing for a hypocritical reason.

Destruction of something can signify a new beginning and an end of the past which was a painful one. Destruction of the building relates to the interview where he gave his views so he hopes there will be a better building built in openness.

From what I picked up, Mr. Gowan's satisfaction with the burned-down building came from him wanting revenge on Pete and Zenith.

The Freedom Building stood as an enduring reminder of his failings and arguably the culprit of some parts of his messed up life and psyche. I think he was glad to be rid of that sight.

I think he didn't like it that the building was gone but this made him free and at ease because he was betrayed by Pete and Zenith and his vengeance was satisfied.

He seemed happier to me after the structure was demolished. He was fully prepared to accept his fate because he was aware that there was no way he would escape punishment for his crimes. He recognized that he would not be the architect because it was impossible.
