Stephanie's Review of Time Is Running Out Trilogy

Post by Stephanie Runyon »

The following is my review for Time Is Running Out Trilogy and the Author comments.

Francis Mont’s trilogy, Time is Running Out, is three dystopian novels depicting the future. A journal written by Trevor Dubois depicts life in 2098. Artificial intelligence, "Big Brain," has streamlined every aspect of life for the people in Oroville. However, the people are unhappy since they feel like parasites. They sent Trevor and seven others to build an experimental homestead. Big Brain gets communication with Sacramento and Yuba. They all work together to support the citizens. In the second book, Rainbow Valley, Chico and Redding join the Sacramento Valley Alliance. Trevor’s homestead is successful. The final book, Valley of Hope, is a story of consequences. Earth has become too unstable for human survival. Trevor finds himself aboard a spaceship called "The Lifeboat," searching for a place where people can live in space. While he is searching, Sacramento’s mayor, Jonathan, is building the underground settlement recommended by the AI.

Francis Mont’s ideas were revolutionary to me. Could artificial intelligence really provide everything for people, thus making humans obsolete? Big Brain’s full automation is what current scientists and supporters of artificial intelligence strive for. Jonathan’s essay, "The Nature Of Money," captured the reason any currency causes corruption and greed. I was in awe of the realistic dialogue and vivid detail given to every character’s personality. Each idea was easy to understand and envision. For example, when an engineer creates a design for improving outdated equipment, they break it down so anybody can visualize the result. The people in the debates objectively viewed political points on all forms of government. Is communism, socialism, dictatorship, or capitalism really the right answer to prevent the destruction of the planet? Will short-term solutions result in a downward spiral in the long term? I recommend the Time is Running Out Trilogy to readers who are interested in looking at different possibilities for saving the planet before mass destruction causes the death of all life.

Francis Mont: "Stephanie, thank you so much for the incredible review you gave my book. Incredible, because you were the first reviewer who actually commented on the most important (for me) aspect of the trilogy which is the social commentary I made about choices and consequences. For a writer, it is a great joy to connect with readers on a level that is closest to his heart. :)"

This is why I enjoy writing reviews for Independent Authors who are just starting their careers. Knowing I was able to understand the author's message and what they pride themselves on. I try to do this on every review that I write and even if I didn't get paid anything for the review, I feel it is still worthwhile. There are some great books out there that don't get the amount of attention they deserve.
"Facts don't care about feelings." Ben Shapiro
"Don't try to keep up with me, I live on the edge too thin to see." Ryan Upchurch
"See, one man's inconvenience is another's joy." NF
