I commend William for what he did. The risk he took just so Lilly can do what she loves and is very good at is very much applaudable.

William was just a sweetheart. Lily's father couldn't have treated her better. It's amusing and ironical that Lily (and me too) thought he was a breeder.

I love how William treated Lily as a daughter instead of a slave. Furthermore, he makes sure that everyone knows about it, it shows how benevolence William was.

William was such a kind and wonderful character. He was nothing but nice and accepting to Lily. I feel like he helped show her that there is true kindness in the world and that she was more than just her skin tone.

Acceptance is a big deal to me, so yeah, I appreciate and love how William accepted Lily as his daughter. It was soothing, to say the least.

I got the impression that Lily improved the lives of everyone who gave her a chance. On the other hand, William is a good man who has felt what Lily is going through. The experience with his late wife is what built him up. The relationship between William and Lily is one of the best points in the book.

I agree with you on this because most slaves never get the opportunity to have a decent relationship with anyone that'd help in their productivity. William's personality is quite amazing, and his sincerity towards Lily is commendable.

It was a beautiful relationship, none wanting for themselves but rather for the other. They helped each other grow and gave support to one another.
It is a beautiful idea that a girl that grew up without a faTher figure, then discovered the man responsible for plucking her from her mother and selling her into a harsh life was her biological father... finally finding William and having a healthy father figure.

I think William was a good man, which helped him to be a good father too. Such a supportive father is anyone's dream. I think one of the positive aspects of the book was Lilly and William's heartwarming relationship.

William showed that you don't have to be related to a person before you are family. Families can be created. I loved their relationship.

I found the relationship between Lily and William quite mature as both of them aimed to thrive in their passion and career and helped each reach that success stage. Quite a grown-up relationship that I liked.

William is one of those people who have stood and thought far above their time or era through the river of time. He was wealthy, and it would have been so easy for him to be like the rest, but he stood above the mass. Despite their social status differences and the criticism, he adored Lily, and her career would not have flourished without the support of a loving father like William.

William was a rose in the thornbush of his era. His fatherly role in Lily's life was a blessing and I really enjoyed their father/daughter relationship.

I really liked William and Lily's relationship. He took good care of her and as he was a wealthy man he even established her as a performer and provided her everything she needed.

William is a wonderful character. His relationship with Lily is what help her succeed the most. She had a father figure to look up to. After learning Williams back story, I liked him even more. It explains why he is so supportive of Lily and of James’s love for Lily.
